Neil Gurney-formerly of Saatchi and Saatchi South Africa
Topic: "Michael Power - The campaign that got more Africans than Irish to drink Guinness!"
Neil Gurney didn't start out in advertising; in fact he began his career as a pilot. After 7 years, 2500 hours in the air, he left the glamorous world of flying for the glamorous world of advertising. As many people do he moved through the ranks within the world of advertising working for most of the big international companies spending time mainly at Bates and McCann and finally ending up with Saatchi Saatchi. Early in 1997 the Worldwide Saatchi Saatchi group strengthened its investment in Africa and in the reshuffle of responsibilities Neil was appointed to develop the network in Africa. Three years later he was appointed CEO for the entire Saatchi Saatchi group in Africa which consisted of 16 agencies through out Africa. In three years and with the help of an amazing team they moved the Saatchi Saatchi Network from nowhere to one of the top three creative Networks in Africa.
With qualifications in advertising and marketing he has been involved in developing communication strategies for some of the worlds top companies such as Johnson Johnson, Rickett Coleman, Parmalat, Engen, Dunhill, DuPont and Guinness to name just a few.
